The Act of Gifting
People like to give. It feels good. The Chronicle crew has come up with some interesting choices to start off the holiday season, not all store-bought. Here’s a hint. Gift 1. Exciting News! Thanks to those who took the survey and two determined Topanga Moms, the Topanga Farmers Market is scheduled to return to the Topanga Community Center. (Page 4) Gift 2. It has been a while since we checked in on the California Wildlife Center (CWC). We learned that 2023 was their 25th year of rescuing and rehabilitating native California wildlife. Ever heard of a Common Poorwill? (Pages 6-7) Gift 3. Susan Hartzler and Seven are back with their holiday gift guide as they “Unleash the Joy” of adding your pups to Santa’s list. (Page 8) Gift 4. People, for the most part, seem to be mastering sustainable living. We suggest you expand that skill to sustainable giving, i.e., becoming a year-round sustaining donor to our local non-profits and their volunteers who work year-round in service to the community. (Page 9) Gift 5. Sarah Spitz takes us on a tour about town for sustainable holiday gifts and fine dining (Page 10) and Paula LaBrot warns parents for the second time, to closely monitor the online activities of their preteens and teens especially when it comes to Tik Tok. Yes, thisis a gift. (Page 11) Gift 6. I’ll never comprehend how Kathie Gibboney makes the transition from Thanksgiving Shopping at Trader Joe’s to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow but she does and it may leave you a bit teary at the end… but grateful for her gift and hopeful. (Page 12) Gift 7. With new funding from the Cultural Arts Passport program, Kindergarten teacher at Topanga Elementary Charter School, Amy Weisberg was tasked with developing and facilitating a plan that will greatly enrich children’s learning experiences throughout this school year. (Page13) The greatest gift of all? You.
